The Turquoise Coast/Lycia Region

 

Kalkan is known as the San Tropez of the Turkish Turquoise coast. This beautiful and historic harbour town offers tranquility, activities and some of the best dining experiences to be found with over 150 restaurants catering for all budgets. The town is 15 minutes drive from Patara or Kaputas beaches, and Kalkan itself has a small beach itself which sits alongside the harbour, where you can take a shared or private boat for a relaxing day exploring the small islands with snorkling and lunch included.

 

The historic town of Kalkan is an enchanting place and one of the most beautiful locations on Turkey's stunning Turquoise Coast. It nestles in the Taurus mountains which form a dramatic backdrop to Kalkan, offering far reaching and breathtaking views of the bay.

 

The many and varied restaurants offer delicious culinary delights to please all tastes, and can be enjoyed in the bourganvilla lined streets, from the roof terraces and from the harbour where you can sit and watch the world go by whilst gazing at the gulets. There is a lively market in the town on a Thursday.

 

Local sporting activities such as water skiing, parascending and scuba diving can be arranged through agencies in Kalkan.

 

Kalkan Area

 

Kalkan is situated in the Lycia region of South West Turkey. Nearby there are many ancient sites and places of interest.

 

A trip to the stunning and acclaimed beach at Patara is a must with its 18km of unspoilt white sand (20 minutes drive away) The fresh trout farms and restaurants in the village of Islamlar. Xanthos, the ancient Lycian capital, Letoon with the remains of temples, buildings and amphitheatre.

 

Saklikent Gorge with its rush of icy water is the largest gorge in Turkey. Nearby town of Kas is a 30 minute drive away along a spectacular coastal road with magnificent views.
